Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company with 25 global brands and over 9,300 hotels, has announced an exclusive development agreement with Soliteight Hotel Projects SA to bring the Super 8 by Wyndham brand to Spain and Portugal.
This initiative will see 40 new hotels opening across the Iberian market over the next decade, addressing a growing need for affordable, high-quality accommodation in the region.
Expanding Wyndham’s Presence in Iberia
Under the agreement, Soliteight, an established hotel development and investment firm and longtime Wyndham franchise, will start the project. The first hotel is set to open in Leiria, Portugal, by Q4 2027, with further locations to follow in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities.
These hotels will be strategically located in key travel hubs such as airports, retail areas, and along popular transport routes. Many properties will be newly built, utilising smart modular designs to ensure efficiency, sustainability, and quality of the Super 8 brand.
Meeting Growing Demand for Affordable Travel
Super 8 is a globally recognised economy hotel brand celebrated for its hospitality, trusted service, and exceptional value. Its expansion into Spain and Portugal comes as both nations experience record-breaking tourism growth.
In 2024, Spain welcomed a staggering 94 million international visitors, while Portugal also saw a surge in travellers. Rising demand for budget-friendly accommodation and Spain’s strong economic growth—marked by a 3.2% GDP increase—further underline the opportunity for reliable economy hotels in these markets.
“Bringing Super 8 to Spain and Portugal is a strategic move to make quality, affordable travel more accessible,” said Dimitris Manikis, President of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, EMEA. “Southern Europe has a growing appetite for dependable, budget-friendly accommodation.
By partnering with Soliteight, we aim to meet this demand while delivering the trusted quality and modern comfort the Super 8 brand is known for. We’re excited to bring this signature blend of affordability and sustainability to these dynamic markets.”
Addressing the Gap in the Hospitality Sector
With mid-range hotels becoming increasingly expensive and budget stays often lacking quality, Super 8 by Wyndham is perfectly positioned to fill this gap. The new hotels will cater to both domestic and international travellers, offering modern amenities while maintaining affordable prices.
Wyndham currently operates 14 Super 8 hotels across EMEA, including Germany, the UK, and Saudi Arabia, and this new venture further strengthens its presence in Europe.
This expansion highlights Wyndham’s commitment to making travel accessible to all, while capitalising on booming tourism trends and changing travel behaviours. Super 8 by Wyndham is set to offer travellers in Spain and Portugal a trusted and valued choice in hospitality, ensuring memorable stays at reasonable prices.
