IHG Hotels & Resorts and ISPT have revealed plans to open InterContinental Brisbane, transforming one of Brisbane’s most iconic buildings into a luxury hotel and dining destination. The hotel is set to welcome guests from late June 2025 following the signing of a long-term management agreement with ISPT, a prominent property funds manager and developer behind the 150 Elizabeth Street precinct, where the property is located.
Transforming an Architectural Masterpiece
The former Hilton Brisbane, located in Brisbane’s CBD on Elizabeth Street, will be reborn as a member of InterContinental, the world’s first and largest luxury hotel brand. Notably, this is the only hotel in Australia designed by the renowned architect Harry Seidler, whose Modernist architectural vision remains a celebrated legacy.
ISPT’s revitalised vision for the precinct integrates the hotel, Wintergarden, and Regent Theatre, blending retail, dining, entertainment, and hospitality into one dynamic urban setting.
Two-Year Transformation
InterContinental Brisbane will undergo a two-year renovation to elevate its luxury standards while retaining the signature elements of Seidler’s original design. Once completed, the hotel will feature:
- 321 elegantly appointed guest rooms, many offering breathtaking views of Brisbane’s skyline.
- Four exceptional restaurants and bars, showcasing world-class dining.
- Expansive conference and event facilities, ideal for meetings and celebrations.
The reimagined hotel will have InterContinental’s hallmarks of innovation, cultural discovery, and sophistication.

Across Australasia, IHG currently manages 69 hotels across nine brands, including Six Senses, InterContinental, voco, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express, with 26 new properties in the pipeline.
