IHG Hotels & Resorts, in collaboration with NOVUM Hospitality, has officially launched Candlewood Suites in Europe, with its first location in Berlin, Germany. This marks a major step for the brand, which is known for offering extended stay accommodation with apartment-style amenities.
Expanding Across Germany
Candlewood Suites Berlin Charlottenburg shares a building with Holiday Inn – the niu Flash, forming a dual-brand project. As part of a wider expansion plan, five more hotels are set to open this year across Germany, in Fürth, Heidelberg, Düsseldorf, Augsburg, and another in Berlin.
Home-Like Comfort for Extended Stays
Candlewood Suites specialises in providing spacious studios and apartments fitted with kitchens, giving guests the freedom to cook and settle in comfortably. Each suite comes equipped with a microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, and coffee and tea-making facilities. Additional amenities include self-service laundry, gym access, weekly housekeeping, and the Candlewood Cupboard, a 24/7 market offering snacks, drinks, and personal essentials.
Executive Insights
Mario Maxeiner, Managing Director of IHG Northern Europe, highlighted Germany as a key growth market for the brand, praising the swift collaboration between IHG and NOVUM Hospitality. David Etmenan, CEO & Owner of NOVUM Hospitality, emphasised Candlewood Suites’ focus on comfort and convenience, providing guests with a true home-away-from-home experience.
Upcoming Openings
The new Candlewood Suites locations will cater to a range of travellers:
- Fürth – Close to shopping centres, with balconies or terraces in every apartment.
- Heidelberg – Nestled in the “Quartier am Turm” district, ideal for families and business travellers.
- Düsseldorf Airport – Perfect for guests flying in and out, with well-equipped kitchenettes.
- Augsburg – Modern serviced apartments with digital check-in and a personal digital host.
- Berlin Airport – Opening later this year near Brandenburg Airport, offering easy transport links.
Future Plans
These hotels are converted properties from NOVUM Hospitality’s acora Living the City and Novum brands, part of a long-term agreement to bring 13 Candlewood Suites locations to Germany, alongside 50 Holiday Inn, the niu brand hotels and 56 Garner hotels.
Candlewood Suites continues to grow globally, with over 395 properties already established since its 2004 acquisition. Now, with its European debut, the brand is set to offer a fresh take on midscale long-stay accommodation across Germany and beyond.
