The Waldorf Astoria New York has officially reopened its doors in a new chapter for one of the world’s most legendary hotels. The transformation, led by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, honours the hotel’s original 1931 Art Deco splendour while introducing modern elegance and advanced amenities.
A Grand Return to Park Avenue
The reimagined property now features 375 oversized guest rooms and suites, each designed with a residential feel and expansive layouts exceeding 570 square feet3. Guests can arrive via three entrances, including Manhattan’s only hotel porte-cochère, and are greeted by the restored “Spirit of Achievement” statue, a symbol of ambition and innovation.
Culinary Excellence Reimagined
Reservations are now open for three distinctive dining venues:
- Lex Yard – A two-storey brasserie by Chef Michael Anthony, offering seasonal, expressive cuisine in a casually elegant setting
- Peacock Alley – The legendary lounge returns with restored murals, the iconic Waldorf Astoria Clock, and live performances at Cole Porter’s piano
- Yoshoku – A Japanese dining concept inspired by kaiseki tradition, set beside the historic “Wheel of Life” mosaic
Events and Wellness Elevated
On 1 September, the hotel’s 43,000 square feet of event space will reopen, including the Grand Ballroom, Jade Room, and Astor Room, all restored to their original grandeur4. Guests can also look forward to the debut of the Guerlain Wellness Spa, a 30,000-square-foot sanctuary offering holistic treatments and a state-of-the-art fitness centre.
A Legacy Reborn
“Waldorf Astoria New York is the original luxury property and the place where luxury service was perfected,” said Chris Nassetta, President and CEO of Hilton.
The hotel’s transformation from a 1,400-room property to a dual-purpose destination with 375 hotel rooms and 372 residences reflects a bold vision for the future of luxury hospitality. With its blend of heritage and innovation, Waldorf Astoria New York once again sets the global standard for refined travel.
