AX Hotels has officially unveiled the Verdala Wellness Hotel, a five-star destination that marks Malta’s first integrated luxury wellness retreat. Located in the heart of Rabat, Verdala blends heritage, innovation, and holistic living to offer a transformative guest experience rooted in wellbeing and Mediterranean charm.
As the newest member of the AX Privilege Collection, Verdala reimagines the legacy of the iconic Grand Hotel Verdala, once a magnet for international film stars and dignitaries in the 1970s into a sanctuary of balance, restoration, and refined simplicity.
A Vision of Wellness and Design
Led by Director of Hospitality and Care Claire Xuereb, Verdala’s philosophy centres on sustainable wellbeing through healthy eating, movement, mindfulness, and community. “It is a place that nourishes the soul rather than vanity,” Xuereb explains, highlighting the hotel’s holistic approach to longevity and lifestyle.
Architecturally sculpted by C&K Architects and designed by Dubai-based studio LW, the hotel emerges from Rabat’s natural ridge as a serene retreat. Earthy tones, raw textures, and natural materials define the interiors, while panoramic countryside views and terraced elevations create a seamless connection to nature.
Immersive Wellness Experiences
Verdala features 46 rooms and suites, including Comfort Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, Junior Suites, Penthouse Suites, and the signature Observatory Suite. Many offer private wellness terraces with hammocks and Jacuzzis, designed to foster tranquillity and reconnection.
At the heart of the hotel is V SPA, a 1,500-square-metre wellness space offering traditional and advanced therapies from salt caves and hammams to infrared saunas, physiotherapy, and energy healing. Communal spaces such as The Nest, The Drawing Room, and The Phoenix Hall support reflection, learning, and renewal, while the Echoes meditation zone and Elixir Bar enhance the rhythm of rest and nourishment.
Guests can choose from three retreat formats: Signature, Seasonal, and Custom Retreats, each tailored to individual goals and aligned with Verdala’s Five Pillars of Wellbeing.
Culinary Wellness at The Griffin Brasserie
The Griffin Brasserie, once a beloved tearoom and nightclub, returns with a wellness-forward menu crafted by Head Chef Brady Dalli and Culinary Director Victor Borg. Dishes celebrate Mediterranean simplicity and seasonal ingredients, offering nourishment without compromise.
Leadership and Legacy
Senior General Manager Kevin Callus and Hotel Manager Camille Brincat lead Verdala’s operations, bringing deep expertise and a commitment to excellence. Their stewardship ensures that Verdala sets a new benchmark in wellness hospitality from its inaugural chapter.
