Gotland’s hospitality offering, Strawberry and Gotlandsbolaget have announced a long-term partnership that will see the arrival of Quality Hotel in Visby by summer 2026. The collaboration reflects a shared ambition to further develop Gotland as one of Sweden’s most attractive destinations for both leisure and business travellers.
A New Chapter for a Beloved Landmark
The hotel currently operating as Scandic Visby, formerly known as Hamnhotellet, will be rebranded and relaunched as a Quality Hotel under a franchise agreement with Strawberry. While Gotlandsbolaget will retain ownership and operational responsibility through its subsidiary Gotland Hotels & Properties, the transformation will align the property with one of the Nordic region’s most recognisable hotel brands.
“It’s no secret that Strawberry loves Gotland,” said Petter Stordalen, owner of Strawberry. “This partnership allows us to take the next step in our growth on the island, and we’re already exploring further collaborations that will benefit locals, businesses, and visitors alike.”
The Shared Vision
The new Quality Hotel will complement the existing Clarion Hotel Wisby, also operated by Strawberry, creating a powerful duo of properties in the heart of Visby. The collaboration opens the door to shared services, joint marketing, and enhanced guest experiences across both hotels.
“We see great potential in creating synergies between the two hotels,” said Carina Hammander, CEO of Gotland Hotels & Properties. “Together, we’ll also explore how other Gotlandsbolaget-owned properties can be developed to support the island’s growth.”
A Boost for Gotland’s Tourism and Business Sectors
With 214 rooms, a restaurant, bar, outdoor pool, jacuzzi, gym, relaxation area, and six meeting rooms, the new Quality Hotel is poised to attract a wide range of guests, from families and leisure travellers to corporate groups and event organisers.
“Gotland is our home, and we’re committed to its continued development,” said Björn Nilsson, CEO of Gotlandsbolaget. “In Strawberry, we’ve found a partner who shares our vision for creating meaningful places to stay and experience the island.”
This partnership signals a bold new era for Gotland’s hospitality sector, one rooted in collaboration, community, and a shared passion for place.
