Mews, the leading hospitality operating system, has announced a multi-year collaboration with KLABU, a social enterprise dedicated to uplifting refugee communities through sport. The alliance sees Mews become the main sponsor of the Boa Vista Spirit clubhouse in northern Brazil, located within Latin America’s largest shelter for indigenous refugees and migrants.
Hospitality Beyond Hotel Walls
The partnership reflects a shared belief in the transformative power of human connection. For Mews, whose technology powers over 12,500 hospitality businesses across 85 countries, this initiative is a natural extension of its mission to create meaningful experiences, wherever people gather.
“Hospitality is about making people feel welcome, safe and seen,” said Ella McCann-Tomlin, VP of ESG at Mews. “That’s exactly what KLABU is doing for displaced communities.”
The collaboration forms part of Mews’ broader ESG strategy, which integrates social value across its ecosystem. Support for the Boa Vista clubhouse will include funding, digital storytelling, creative campaigns, and employee engagement.
The Boa Vista Spirit: A Beacon of Belonging
Located in the Waraotuma a Tuaranoko shelter, the Boa Vista Spirit clubhouse serves over 1,000 Venezuelan refugees annually, many from indigenous groups such as the Warao, Pemon, and Wayúu. KLABU’s vibrant clubhouses offer access to sports, creativity, and technology, creating spaces of joy, resilience, and community in some of the world’s most vulnerable environments.
Mews’ sponsorship will enable:
- Employment of clubhouse managers
- Organisation of training sessions and inclusive activities
- Maintenance and enhancement of sports facilities
- Long-term sustainability through community-led ownership
“Mews brings not just resources, but a shared belief in the strength of community,” said Jan van Hövell, Founder of KLABU. “Together, we’ll help write a new chapter in Boa Vista driven by sport, hospitality and human connection.”
A Scalable Model for Social Impact
The partnership also lays the groundwork for future innovation. Mews is exploring ways to expand its ecosystem to support clubhouse operations, potentially connecting the initiative to its global customer base through scalable, high-impact programs.
KLABU’s clubhouses modular, community-led spaces often built from shipping containers have already made a difference in refugee camps across Mauritania, Jordan, and now Brazil. Each clubhouse is a hub for sports, music, and digital access, designed to foster pride, hope, and self-reliance.
