Marriott International, Inc has announced a landmark agreement with PathSpot Technologies, Inc., a pioneering company known for its real-time hygiene management system and digital kitchen solutions. This collaboration marks a significant advancement in Marriott’s efforts to enhance food and beverage operations across its portfolio of over 9,300 properties spanning the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East.
Raising the Bar in Hygiene Management
PathSpot’s cutting-edge technology combines handwashing validation and equipment monitoring systems, safeguarding against the threat and spread of illnesses. Marriott becomes the first hospitality company to adopt this innovative solution globally, reaffirming its commitment to health and safety while empowering its associates to better meet customer needs.
Stephen Toevs, Vice President of Culinary Operations at Marriott International, shared his vision: “As the world’s leading hospitality company, operating over 10,000 food and beverage outlets with $7 billion in annual sales and 53 Michelin stars across 30 brands globally, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our guests remains paramount. Our partnership with PathSpot allows us to provide cost-effective technology that not only streamlines food safety procedures but also empowers our associates to deliver exceptional service with confidence.”
How PathSpot Technology Works
PathSpot’s system utilises a network of sensors, along with visible, audible, and electronic alerts, to notify associates when invisible contamination is detected, prompting immediate corrective action. Marriott properties that implement PathSpot’s Hand Scanner and SafetySuite gain access to tools that modernise and digitise operations, simplify record-keeping, and support adherence to strict hygiene protocols.
The SafetySuite also includes real-time temperature monitoring for refrigerators and freezers, ensuring consistent food quality by alerting teams to temperature-related issues. This technology has been shown to save properties an estimated two to eight hours daily in back-of-house monitoring and logging, allowing associates to focus on guest-facing tasks while improving maintenance efficiency and reducing food waste and energy consumption.
Commitment to Innovation and Safety
Christine Schindler, CEO and Co-Founder of PathSpot, praised Marriott’s leadership in health and safety: “Marriott sets a benchmark for dedication to quality across its portfolio. By implementing PathSpot’s innovative food safety technology, Marriott enhances consistency, efficiency, and sustainability in its operations. Our contamination-detection tools prevent foodborne illnesses before they spread, ensuring a higher level of safety for everyone they serve.”
Driving Industry Transformation
Marriott International’s legacy of innovation has been at the heart of the company’s success for nearly a century. Guided by its core value of embracing change, Marriott continues to invest in research and development, creative partnerships, and pilot initiatives to remain a leader in the hospitality industry.
By partnering with PathSpot, Marriott is taking yet another step to revolutionise back-of-house operations and ensure an unmatched guest experience, exemplifying its unwavering focus on associates, guests, owners, and franchisees. This forward-looking approach reinforces Marriott’s position as a pioneer in the hospitality industry, setting new standards in safety, efficiency, and sustainability across its global portfolio.
