JA Resorts & Hotels, the Dubai-based hospitality group known for its award-winning properties in the UAE and the Maldives, has officially entered the UK market with the acquisition of two historic Scottish hotels: Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort and The Bruntsfield in Edinburgh.
A Heritage-Rich Debut in the United Kingdom
Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort, originally built in 1828 by Sir Robert Smirke (architect of the British Museum), is a five-star estate nestled on 240 acres along the River Clyde near Glasgow.
Following a £25 million refurbishment, it reopened in May 2025 with 74 restored rooms and suites, two restaurants, two bars, and grand public spaces including a private cinema and Billiards Room,
The Bruntsfield, a Baronial-style townhouse hotel built in 1861, offers 72 rooms, a vibrant restaurant, and a heated secret garden. Located in central Edinburgh, it blends boutique charm with city’s beauty. The property underwent a £1 million transformation in 2022 and is set for further upgrades under JA’s stewardship.
A Strategic Milestone for JA Resorts
These acquisitions mark JA Resorts & Hotels’ first entry into the UK, reflecting its evolution into a globally minded, destination-led hospitality brand. CEO Ralph Porciani noted, “We look forward to preserving the unique history and character of these heritage hotels, whilst implementing JA’s global brand standards and service philosophy.”
Chairman Ahmed Baker of parent company Dutco Group added: “As a homegrown brand rooted in Dubai’s hospitality heritage, it is especially meaningful to see our growth extend internationally in ways that remain true to who we are.”
A Shared Commitment to Exceptional Guest Experiences
Both properties will retain their distinctive character while embracing JA’s guest-first philosophy and authentic services. From the natural beauty of Mar Hall’s countryside estate to the urban elegance of The Bruntsfield, guests can expect immersive experiences that celebrate local culture, heritage, and hospitality.
