Intrepid Travel, known for its experiential and responsible tourism, has expanded its global accommodation portfolio with the acquisition of Edge of the Bay resort in Tasmania, Australia, and a traditional Moroccan riad in Marrakech.
This move supports the company’s strategy to create boutique hospitality experiences that align with community-driven impact.
New Additions to Intrepid’s Accommodation Portfolio
- Edge of the Bay (Tasmania, Australia) – A 20-room resort located on the Freycinet Peninsula, offering stunning views over Wineglass Bay. Originally established in 1980, the resort will now integrate nature-based guest experiences and a partnership with Greening Australia to support local conservation initiatives.
- Traditional Riad (Marrakech, Morocco) – A 470m², 17-room Moroccan guesthouse situated five minutes from the medina.
Set to open under Intrepid’s full operation in July 2025, the riad will feature culinary experiences with chefs trained through Intrepid’s foundation partner, the Amal Association, which empowers women through culinary skills training.
A Responsible Travel Vision
This expansion is part of Intrepid’s broader accommodation strategy, which aims to establish small-scale, boutique stays with a strong focus on community, cultural preservation, and sustainability. These properties can be booked independently of Intrepid tours, offering travellers immersive experiences while giving back to local communities.
Future Growth Plans
Intrepid Travel’s accommodation portfolio now includes four locations, following previous acquisitions:
- Daintree Ecolodge (Queensland, Australia) – Acquired in 2023, known for its eco-lodging and rainforest conservation.
- Hoi An hotel (Vietnam) – A multi-year leased property supporting cultural tourism in the region.
The company aims to grow to 20 properties worldwide within the next three years, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable, community-led tourism.
Leadership Perspective
James Thornton, CEO of Intrepid Travel, emphasized: “Our accommodation approach is rooted in cultural preservation, community support, and enhancing the local economy. Each property is designed to offer travellers an immersive stay that connects them to the destination.”
Celine Hurelle, GM of Accommodation at Intrepid, added: “We want our hotels to be gateways to exploration places where guests can engage deeply with culture, environment, and community while enjoying a comfortable stay.”
With this expansion, Intrepid Travel continues to redefine boutique hospitality, combining meaningful travel experiences with responsible tourism practices.
