Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality group, has announced the signing of a new Tree of Life resort in the heart of Pondicherry’s White Town, marking a significant step in the brand’s expansion into boutique, experiential travel destinations. The brownfield project will restore a heritage-listed property at the junction of Rue Suffren and Bazaar Saint Laurent Street, just moments from New Sand Beach.
The upcoming 18-key resort, once recognised by Vieilles Maisons Françaises (VMF) as Patrimoine Historique, will celebrate Pondicherry’s French colonial legacy while offering modern comforts and curated experiences. The property will feature an all-day dining restaurant, a swimming pool, and a spa, designed to provide guests with a serene retreat amidst the city’s vibrant cultural corridor.
“Pondicherry’s unique blend of heritage and leisure makes it an ideal destination for the Tree of Life brand,” said Ms. Deepika Rao, Executive Vice President, New Businesses & Hotel Openings, IHCL. “This signing reinforces our commitment to curating boutique experiences that offer authenticity and exclusivity.”
The project is being developed in partnership with Mr. Karthik Annamalai, who added, “We are happy to partner with IHCL and pay tribute to the city’s timeless heritage through the Tree of Life experience.”
