IHG Hotels & Resorts and Felix Capital have unveiled ambitious new plans for a landmark development in the heart of the Sunshine Coast: Crowne Plaza Maroochydore. Reimagined from an earlier concept for voco Maroochydore, the project reflects a strategic pivot to meet the region’s surging demand for premium conference and event infrastructure.
Located on Ocean Street, the Crowne Plaza Maroochydore will feature 180 elegantly appointed guest rooms and over 770 square metres of flexible meeting and event space, including a grand 600sqm ballroom. The hotel’s extensive amenities will include a 30-metre pool and spa, wellness retreat, gym, sauna, and two levels of secure basement parking.
Guests will enjoy a vibrant food and beverage offering, comprising:
- A 210-seat all-day restaurant
- A 160-seat signature dining venue
- An outdoor pool bar and lounge
- A stylish lobby bar
This mix is designed to cater to a wide range of occasions, from corporate conferences and weddings to family holidays and local social gatherings.
Matt Tripolone, Managing Director of IHG Hotels & Resorts Australasia & Pacific, commented: “We worked closely with Felix Capital to reimagine this opportunity, thinking strategically about the elements that will create the best outcome for the hotel and the Sunshine Coast region. There’s real value in delivering a hotel that puts conferences and events at its core, while also offering an exceptional guest experience.”
Felix Capital Director Michael Maroun added: “The response to our original vision was overwhelmingly positive. With Crowne Plaza at the heart of this development, we can now create a space that truly meets the needs of the region. We’re confident this hotel will elevate the visitor experience and boost the Sunshine Coast’s appeal as a year-round destination.”
With local and state governments projecting a need for over 2,400 additional hotel rooms by 2032—equivalent to around 10 new hotels the Crowne Plaza Maroochydore is set to play a pivotal role in supporting the region’s economic and tourism growth.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with the hotel expected to open its doors in 2028. This marks the second collaboration between IHG and Felix Capital, following the 2024 signing of Holiday Inn & Suites Caloundra, which is slated for a 2030 debut.
