Hyatt Hotels Corporation has officially opened Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo, marking the brand’s debut in the Japanese capital and its second property in the country. Located in the heart of Nihonbashi Kabutocho, Tokyo’s historic financial district turned creative hub, the 195-room hotel offers guests a tech-forward hospitality experience rooted in local culture.
Just steps from Kayabacho and Nihonbashi subway stations, the hotel provides easy access to Tokyo Station, Marunouchi, Ginza, and both Haneda and Narita airports. Designed to serve as a neighbourhood anchor, Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo centres around Talk Shop, a dynamic all-day social space where guests and locals can eat, drink, work, and connect.
A New Chapter for Caption by Hyatt
Launched in 2022, Caption by Hyatt is an upscale focused-service brand that blends intuitive self-service technology with authentic community engagement. The Kabutocho property joins a growing global portfolio that includes locations in Shanghai, Osaka, and Nashville.
“It is an honour to open Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo and introduce the brand to Tokyo for the first time,” said Masa Yamada, General Manager. “Kabutocho is alive with creative energy, and we aim to connect people with each other and the neighbourhood, where traditions and new ideas meet.”
Design That Reflects the Neighbourhood
Guestrooms range from 22 to 54 square metres and are themed around “BRIDGE,” “COMMUNITY,” “OLD & NEW,” and “FUTURE,” reflecting Kabutocho’s multifaceted identity. Design elements include nods to local streetscapes and the hand signals once used on the Tokyo Stock Exchange trading floor. Amenities feature Apotheke bath products from Brooklyn, self-service check-in, complimentary Wi-Fi, and streaming-enabled TVs. Suites also include in-room washer and dryers.
Australian design studio Mitchell & Eades led the interiors, blending traditional Japanese crafts with modern, sustainable design. The hotel’s hybrid timber-and-steel structure earned it the DBJ Green Building Certification, recognising its environmental performance and community contribution.
Talk Shop: A Social and Culinary Hub
Talk Shop offers a “Burgers & Greens” menu, with highlights like the Caption Burger made from Japanese Holstein beef and a plant-based chickpea burger. Guests can enjoy coffee from SR Coffee Roaster and craft beer from Heiwa Shuzo. The space transitions throughout the day, from morning coffee to evening cocktails, and includes a 24/7 Market featuring local products and essentials.
Cultural programming includes chiyogami notebook-making workshops and Jazz Nights with emerging Tokyo artists, fostering community engagement and authentic local experiences.
