The Luxury Collection is extending its legacy of unveiling remote and culturally rich escapes, inviting visitors to discover the pristine wonders of South Caicos Island. As part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio, The Luxury Collection proudly announces the grand opening of Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa in Turks & Caicos – the brand’s debut in this region.
Located on the tranquil shores of South Caicos Island, Salterra offers an unparalleled retreat, enticing guests to immerse themselves in the natural splendour, premier watersports, exquisite dining, and cultural experiences that define the destination.
“The Luxury Collection is about curating exceptional portfolios of unique hotels in some of the world’s most captivating and unexpected locales,” stated Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader for The Luxury Collection. “We are delighted to present Salterra, our latest addition, offering travellers a gateway to South Caicos – a serene and lesser-explored part of the Caribbean, celebrated for its stunning beauty and rich maritime heritage. With its nature-inspired design, elevated culinary experiences, and world-class eco-adventures, this resort exemplifies our destination-first philosophy, where every property reflects the soul of its locale and acts as a portal to authentic cultural discovery.”
A Sanctuary Shaped by Nature
The resort features architecture by the award-winning TVS firm and interior design by the renowned Edge of Architecture, under the direction of Malcolm Berg, 2020 Gold Key Awards Designer of the Year. Salterra’s sophisticated concept draws inspiration from South Caicos’ iconic salt flats and tropical allure, with hues of cerulean, white, and rust. The resort offers 100 well-appointed guest rooms and suites crafted from locally sourced materials like native wood, coral stone, and sisal, creating a tranquil atmosphere that enhances the connection to the natural surroundings. Floor-to-ceiling windows and expansive balconies flood the accommodations with natural light and offer breathtaking seascape views, blending harmoniously with the island’s environment.
Wellness in Harmony with Nature
At the core of the resort is The Spa at Salterra, a sanctuary dedicated to well-being and rejuvenation. The spa boasts eight luxurious treatment rooms, including two couple suites, with a carefully curated selection of world-class treatments designed to restore balance. Drawing inspiration from the oceanic setting, the spa features a multisensory aqua thermal circuit with a salt sauna, steam room, aloe bar, and a rejuvenating hammam, harnessing the healing effects of water to alleviate stress and fatigue. Guests can unwind in the outdoor lounge, soak in the hot tub, or enjoy the social pool, creating an oasis for total relaxation.
Epicurean Journeys
Salterra offers six distinctive dining experiences, each showcasing the island’s rich culinary heritage. The chic lobby bar Sisal features seasonal local ingredients, while Cobo Bar & Grill presents Latin-inspired cuisine and expert mixology against the stunning backdrop of the resort’s private beach. Brine, the signature restaurant, offers a chef’s tasting menu paired with an extensive wine selection, including a unique 7-course menu inspired by the region’s historical “white gold” – salt. Regatta, with its British Caribbean fusion cuisine and second-story terrace views, provides a laid-back coastal ambiance. Flamingo Café serves homemade gelato, local fruit smoothies, and crafted espresso, while Jack & Jenny’s food truck offers a rotating menu of street food infused with local flavours.
World-Class Eco-Experiences
The resort, adjacent to the protected Admiral Cockburn Land & Sea National Park, offers a myriad of adventures in pristine nature. From kayaking and bone fishing to seasonal whale watching, guests can explore the natural wonders of the South Caicos. The calm, crystalline waters are ideal for diving and snorkelling, providing close encounters with indigenous marine life. Guided tours to local wildlife, uninhabited islands, and natural salt ponds offer rich, immersive experiences.
The resort’s Salt Discovery Experience allows guests to explore the storied salinas and learn about the salt trade heritage, while coral reef restoration workshops, in partnership with the South Caicos Coral Reef Consortium, provide opportunities for guests to contribute to the environment.
Commitment to Sustainability
Salterra’s commitment to sustainability is integral to its operations. The resort harnesses solar energy to meet over half of its energy needs and utilises an industrial composting system for food waste, plants, and paper. Seawater desalination provides drinking water, and rainwater is harvested for irrigation. Single-use plastic bottles have been eliminated in guest rooms, with filtered water dispensers encouraging responsible hydration.” Salterra is a destination where luxury and sustainability converge in an extraordinary setting,” said Michael Tibbets, Managing Director of Salterra. “South Caicos, with its unspoiled beaches and rich cultural heritage, offers a rare opportunity to reconnect with nature while enjoying the finest experiences the Caribbean has to offer.”
